A DIFFERENT PLANE/ QUARANTINE ISLAND

CLAY PRINTS/ IMPRECIONES de ARCILLA

This is a recycling project that I've begun, weaving strips of canvas-backed, acid-free paper into unique totes and handbags. I'll sometimes embellish the bags with various images using techniques best suited to the design; techniques such as stenciling, painting and drawing. I'll sometimes paint the design onto the bag by freehand.

Working with this multi-faceted surface is very challenging which is what makes this project especially important to me. It affords me the opportunity to push my creative endeavors and create functional works of art that are truly one of a kind. No two bags will ever be the same.

I am using remnants to create my paper bags from a restoration process called, linen backing. This is a common archival process for paper in which the paper is mounted to specially woven canvas and acid-free paper using an adhesive that is reversible with water.

Get a better with views of both sides of the bags added. Additional images available upon request.
