My work can be described as meditations on a subject with heavy emphasis on color and texture that help me to express the beauty of a form.
Mostly a painter for the greater part of my life, I love using various mediums and techniques to achieve the effects that resemble my perception of events, settings and particular details that have caught my attention throughout the day.
Most of my work relies heavily on memory because many of my subjects appear while I'm in transit, so I'll work from quick sketches with notes or snapshots to be used later on with various mediums that are available to me or that work best for the idea.
Printing from clay is a printing process that I began developing in 2003, and went public with my first print “Natural Connection”, submitted for and now part of the permanent collection of the peace poster project, “Yo! What Happened To Peace” in California in 2004.
Another endeavor that I've been passionate about since 2010 is a project that involves designing and painting unique tote bags; I call this project My Paper Bag Company. These bags are made from recycled strips of canvas-backed, acid free paper used in a process called linen backing; a conservation method that is commonly used in the preservation of paper-- for example, vintage posters.
This project is important to me because it employs my art to be fully functional. I've always admired and found fascinating the myriad of designs that are developed into functional works of art such as: tools, timepieces, automobiles and clothing to name a few. Although a number of what I mentioned also serves as status symbols to some, I love the fact that these designs fulfill the basic requirements of it's end use and that is what I've always aspired to with my art work. My Paper Bag Company allows me to move into that direction and explore more creative possibilities- be it a broader range of matierials used, combining methods that I've used in the past, designs and even collaborations with other artists.
My aim is to project the respect and wonder that each subject impresses on me. It's the uncertainties that allow for limitless potential of growth and understanding, and by accepting that this notion exists, opens the possibility of constantly finding something new and beautiful about the things that we come in contact with daily including that which is most important to us.
